While we bill ourselves as the go-to place for all things podcasting, TopPodcast has taken it one step further. They are looking to be the entire epicenter of the podcasting universe. That includes the podcast listener. We were really excited to talk to their founder Kurt Laufer about this project and what they are already doing and hope to accomplish.
Notably, TopPodcast is looking to solve one of the biggest complaints of the industry, podcast discovery. Instead of forcing people to have to figure out if you are on iTunes, Google, Stitcher, Overcast, etc, they are aggregating the top podcasts, top publishers, and top audio apps onto one website for effortless discovery. They have rankings across several categories, they are listing as many shows as they possibly can (and reach out to them if you are not listed yet), and they even have a Podfluencer Podcast of the week feature will help you find other niche shows that might not make into those top rankings.
Beyond the podcast show listing, they are looking to include podcast network’s, podcast apps, industry research, news & trends, and more. We have a feeling that TopPodcast could be on the road to becoming the Billboard magazine of this industry if the industry is willing to get on board.
They just launched a couple of weeks ago, and already there is a great buzz behind their product. We chat with Kurt about the platform and also dive into his expertise in broadcasting and how that experience can help you the podcast producer create great content that can land you on their top lists.
