One of the biggest frustrations that I hear from podcasters is about podcast discovery. How to find new and interesting shows to check out. Sure, you can look at ‘New and Noteworthy’ in iTunes but that doesn’t tell you what your friends are listening to. It just displays top performing shows based on a complicated algorithm that most of us don’t understand. However, Jamie Perkins is hoping to change that.
Jamie, is the founder and creator of a brand new social listening app called Tung.FM. With Tung.FM, you can play all of the podcasts that exist in iTunes with a fully social experience. You can like episodes, comment on them, and create snippets of the show to share with others. It’s like the Podcast app, twitter, Facebook, Clammr, and SoundCloud all rolled up into one neat package.
For example, here’s a clip of Tony Robbins on the Tim Ferris Show that was created by user arhhoskins on the platform. The clips are super easy to make. And for me, it was super easy to embed this clip into the blog entry here. The clip can be shared to Facebook and Twitter, you can easily go back and see what other interactions were created for this episode, or see other podcast interactions that arhhoskins created on the platform.
I could sit here and list everything you can do on Tung.FM, but I think the best thing for you to do is listen to founder Jamie Perkins talk about. Then go ahead and download the app or check out the web version. It’s a smooth interface that could dramatically improve the listening experience if we all jump in.
